A slate table isn't furniture. It's a precision surface.

A real pool table sits on slate that weighs several hundred pounds, usually in three pieces. Move it wrong and you crack a slab, or you get it back together and every shot rolls off line.

When we set a table we shim each slab, check it with a machinist's level in both directions, and fill the seams so the ball rolls true over them. Then the cloth goes back on tight.
